Major functions include oversight of Habitat construction programs, securing designs for Habitat homes and repair projects, supervision of site supervisors, set building schedules, assist in setting procurement policies, support build site selection efforts, monitor construction costs, work to set construction building standards and to monitor construction costs, and prepare reports. Lead development of and manage a critical home repair program. Collaborate with committees, volunteers, and staff in all facets of the construction process.
Minimum of five years’ experience as contractor or construction manager. Experienced in residential construction. Experience working with non-profit organizations a plus. Experience supervising others. Proficient in computer functions and general software for office and construction operations. Maintain a high level commitment to safe building practices through the Competent Person process and Habitat safety standards. Ability to become a Certified Competent Person and Responsible Managing Individual (RMI). Ability to obtain and present construction documents to secure building permits; coordinate with engineers, architects, and other professionals.
Strong verbal and written communications skills, Ability to adjust to changing conditions or workload schedules. Encourage and support Habitat’s mission and core value of diversity. Actively encourage and support involvement of volunteers in virtually all facets of construction. Ability to be self-directed within the framework of Habitat operating standards and mission. Must pass sexual offender registry check and have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

To better serve an urgent need for affordable homeownership and home repair in Lane County, Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity is merging with nearby Cottage Grove Area Habitat for Humanity to create a single affiliate that will be known as Habitat for Humanity of Central Lane.
There is an increasing need for services like the ones Habitat provides in Lane County. The cost of rent is increasing faster than wages, housing stock is scarce, and homeownership is increasingly out of reach for local families. With a desire to better meet this growing need, our affiliates have been looking at ways that we might collaborate to:
- Better serve central and southeast Lane County
- Expand opportunities for people to engage with Habitat
- Shelter more families here and abroad
- Improve outreach to rural communities within our service areas
Ultimately, we made the exciting decision to merge the two organizations into one affiliate, becoming Habitat for Humanity of Central Lane, serving central and southeast Lane County. This decision was reached after more than a year of careful thought and discussion. All staff from both affiliates will continue with the new organization and the boards of directors will combine and include representatives of both affiliates. The ReStores in Cottage Grove and Eugene will continue to operate in their respective locations, and we will continue pursuing our plan to open a ReStore in Springfield.
By combining our administrative costs and deploying resources more effectively to where they are needed, we hope to be able to provide safe, decent, affordable homes to more families and complete more repair projects on a local level. Our combined efforts will also enable us to serve more families internationally through Habitat for Humanity International. Additionally we can provide more opportunities for the very dedicated volunteers of the Cottage Grove area to joyfully serve Habitat’s mission.
We will complete the merger by the end of 2017, and will remain headquartered at our Eugene office on 1210 Oak Patch Road. Happy New Year to all! We need your help next week – please sign up to volunteer to help with final landscaping work at the Yogi Way house. Next Thursday-Saturday, volunteers will finish building the fence and spread backfill in the yard. This will help us to complete the house by the end of January!
At the end of December, volunteers primed and painted the interior of the Martinez family home on Royal Avenue. Several volunteer teams joined us on the build site in December, including all five sponsors of this Interfaith Build: Pacific Continental Bank, Central Lutheran Church, Central Presbyterian Church, First Congregational Church, and Temple Beth Israel! This week, volunteers are putting the final touches on paint and trim. Next up, cabinets and flooring will be installed. Here are a few photos of the progress on Royal Ave:

Work on the build site continues, despite the stormy weather. Volunteers recently built a fence at the Yogi Way house, and excavation and other exterior work is nearing completion. Volunteers are currently painting and priming the walls on Royal Avenue, and more interior work will continue into the new year.

Jimenez Home Dedication

The Jimenez family home on Yogi Way was dedicated on November 15. Many community members and supporters were in attendance – including the four sponsoring Rotary clubs, Wells Fargo representatives, Mayor Kitty Piercy, and Rep. Nancy Nathanson. It was a joyous opportunity to celebrate the hard work of the many sponsors and volunteers who came together to build this home alongside the Jimenez family – Ursula and her children, Ishmael and Haley. Work will conclude on the exterior of the house this month, and the family looks forward to purchasing and moving into the home very soon. This is Habitat’s 52nd completed home, and the first Greater Rotary Build. Watch the KEZI news story here.

Martinez Home – Royal Ave. Interfaith Build
The Interfaith Build on Royal Avenue is progressing quickly this winter! In November, several clergy members from the sponsoring congregations volunteered together on the build site, installing Levi’s recycled denim insulation in the house. You can listen to a KKNU Community Forum story about the build here, including interviews with the family, clergy members, and Habitat staff.
Future homeowner, Brenda, works alongside Christian and Jewish clergy members.
Volunteers recently hung drywall on the interior, and will soon begin priming the walls. It’s beginning to look homey inside! After painting, volunteers will move on to interior finish work such as installing cabinets, flooring, and appliances. Watch KVAL coverage of the build progress and the family’s story here.
