On Sunday, March 29th 2015, we celebrated the groundbreaking of our 53rd home for Ursula and her children, Ishmael and Haley. Thank you to the many sponsors, volunteers, board members, Habitat families, donors, and local dignitaries who attended and made this a momentous occasion! House sponsors are: Eugene Delta Rotary, Eugene Metropolitan Rotary, Eugene Southtowne Rotary, Springfield Twin Rivers Rotary, Northwood Christian Church, Wells Fargo, and Oregon Association of Realtors, with additional support from Eugene Association of Realtors. The house is located at 3609 Yogi Way in Eugene, the final Habitat home which will be built on Yogi Way.
During the ceremony, family Advocate, Shawn Irvin, spoke of how hard Ursula has already worked to earn her house, contributing over 200 sweat equity hours – paying it forward by working on other Habitat homes and other volunteer opportunities with Habitat. Shawn also shared that Ursula is the kind of person who always leaves you feeling better after you see her. Ursula shared her story of how her prayers were answered when she learned about Habitat from a friend at church. Watch Ursula share her story here.
You can watch video from KVAL of the earth being turned by Ursula and family, as well as house sponsors and Habitat officials: KVAL Story. Thank you to all who came out to celebrate with us, and may the building begin! You can sign up to volunteer on the Jimenez house here.
