Meet ReStore Volunteers, Nancy & Mike

Nancy and Mike Keeton joke that they keep coming back to the Habitat ReStore because they’re always finding more items to buy.  But in all seriousness, it’s the fellow volunteers, Habitat staff, and partner families that have kept them at S/E Habitat for over 5 years.

Nancy and Mike are longtime donors and ReStore volunteers, beginning with the opening of the ReStore in 2010.  They volunteer together in the ReStore on a regular basis – Nancy organizes items on the sale floor, while Mike helps with recycling in the ReStore warehouse.  Nancy said about her volunteer experience: “We really enjoy working with Scott and Cindy (ReStore staff).  The volunteers are super.  It’s fun to talk with people about what they’re doing with the items they buy, to find out what they’re repurposing things for.”  For this couple, the biggest draws to Habitat are the opportunity to help, fun while they work, help people build a home, and repurpose items.

Mike and Nancy both volunteered on the most recent Thrivent build for the Millard family.  Nancy served as a Thrivent liaison with the Messiah Lutheran Church, which provided three lunches to build volunteers.  Mike and Nancy were thrilled to work alongside Albert Millard.  Mike said, “It’s so much fun to work with someone who’s so appreciative and sincere.”  The Keetons have volunteered on other houses in the past, including two S/E Habitat homes in Springfield.  Before that, Mike worked on a Thrivent build house in Monroe in 2008, with Junction City/Harrisburg/Monroe Habitat for Humanity.

Besides their work with Habitat, the Keetons are active members of their congregation, Messiah Lutheran Church.  Mike is a church elder.  Nancy delivers the children’s message each Sunday. She is also involved with the women’s group, which makes quilts and hosts a rummage sale that benefits local nonprofits.  Mike and Nancy both serve on the Board of Education for the church’s preschool.

We appreciate Nancy and Mike Keeton for their many years of volunteer service and support of Habitat!  With their help, we are making the dream of affordable housing a reality for local families.
