Can we build a house in an hour? YES, yes we can, with your help.
The 2019 Breakfast will feature a new video about a local Habitat Homeowner. Our keynote speaker will be Habitat for Humanity’s very first volunteer, Clive Rainey, who also served as the Africa Director for Habitat International.
All funds raised at the breakfast will go towards construction of the first home in Fischer Village, a new 12-home development in Springfield.
Clive Rainey joined Habitat in 1977, soon after the organization was formed, as its first volunteer. He had served as chair of the family selection committee for the house-building program at Koinonia, a rural Christian community where the idea of building homes in partnership with the poor was conceived. It was Rainey who brought the concept of “Sweat Equity” to Koinonia—and ultimately Habitat – after learning that developers of middle-class housing sometimes used a family’s unskilled labor on their house in lieu of a down payment. Today “Sweat Equity” is a key part of every Habitat build in 70 countries.
This year we’ve remodeled our benefit breakfast with a new location.
