Own a Home: Do I Qualify

Qualififications
  • A household’s gross income (before taxes) must be between 40% to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for our geographical area which is based on HUD guidelines, adjusted annually. Here are the H.U.D. numbers for 2025. 2026 is released in April.
  • Current housing must be insufficient due to overcrowding, temporariness, defective and unsafe conditions, or other reasons.
  • Applicants may be paying significantly more than 30% of their gross income for rent.
  • Must have lived or worked (on-site work not remote*) in the affiliate service area for the previous 12 months *Worker must show proof that they lived in the HFHCL service area while working the remote position.
  • Citizen or permanent resident

The process begins with a Pre-Application that opens when we have homes in process.

Area Median Income

The Area Median Income (AMI) is calculated by the federal agency Housing & Urban Development also known as H.U.D. These numbers change every year and are made public each April. Here are the current numbers as calculated by H.U.D. (these were released in April of 2025)
